Represented the State of Utah as first chair trial counsel while serving as an Assistant Attorney General in the felony jury trial of State v. Motta which successfully resulted in felony convictions on all counts. While serving as an Assistant Attorney General in the Utah Attorney General’s Office, Mat also appeared in approximately one hundred cases where he handled motions, preliminary hearings, and trials.
Represented divorced spouse in child support, alimony, and property collection actions against former husband. Following the hearing in Utah District Court, the Court ordered that our client receive judgments and orders allowing for recovery of the amounts not paid and also found the former husband in contempt of court and ordered that he serve time in jail as punishment for failing to pay our client.
Represented and defended Utah landowners in Utah District Court who were sued by neighboring property owners regarding easement access. After asserting numerous defenses and counterclaims, the case was settled for a nominal sum and the clients retained their easement access rights.
Represented and defended surviving spouse in California Superior Court on a pro hac vice basis. Plaintiff brought probate and civil actions against our client alleging elder abuse, fraud, and undue influence. After extensive discovery and mediation, the case settled favorably for a fraction of the amounts alleged and complained of by the plaintiff.
Represented numerous injured parties in Utah District Court and Utah Federal District Court including cases of products liability, employment discrimination, plane accidents, slip and fall, and auto accidents and has received numerous six and seven-figure recoveries.
Represented client in real estate deal/loan in Arizona Superior Court. The case resulted in six-figure settlements and judgments from multiple defendants.
Represented client in arbitration against her former physician on medical malpractice claims. A case was arbitrated before a retired Judge and resulted in a favorable settlement following the arbitration trial but before the issuance of a ruling by the arbitrator.
Represent homeowner in luxury home construction defect case involving numerous parties and numerous failures in design, construction, and supervision. The case resulted in a significant confidential settlement to the client.
Represented business owner in felony criminal charges brought against him in Utah District Court. After investigation of facts and law and negotiations with the prosecuting attorney, I obtained an entire dismissal of the case without the client having to be booked in jail or having to appear in Court. Represented guardian of a child after Utah DCFS investigated and made findings of dependency charges against client. Mat appealed the dependency charges and the appeal resulted in a reversal of all charges against the client.
